Yeah, that was at the top of Mauna Kea ~14,000 feet!  So That was
about 4,000 feet above the clouds.  Some of the world's best
observatories are up there (Keck) and it's a scary drive.

First you have to drive Saddle Road which is an old (WWII) Army road -
no banks, 2 lanes, half of each lane is full of patched up potholes so
you drive the center.  That's about a 25 mile drive and can be really
foggy because you go up to about 6500 feet.  Oncoming traffic scares
the crap out of you.

Then you hang a left and up to 9,000 feet it's paved and an easy
drive.  There's a visitor's center there.  Then it's dirt with no
guard rails and a sheer drop off the side 0_0  The last mile is paved.
