Without actually testing any code here (I don't have time right now but I will look again later if you have no joy), try setting the image to block for starters. <img src="interface_underMasthead_1.jpg" width="548" height="351" alt="" style="display:block;"> That should fix it. By default images are inline, and that space you see is reserved for the tail on letters like j and g.
