In the 16 years that I've been in the US (ghads has it been that long?) never 
once have I seen anyone distributing poppies before Nov 11. In contrast, at 
least 10 days before the event, veterans, children and others are distributing 
poppies on the streets, in Winnipeg at least. For the memorial services on Nov. 
11 you can see the poppies all over the place.

But I'll check into the local VFW post this year and see if I can get one.
