Costner won two Oscars for "Dances With Wolves". For the record, I like various movies that these guys have been in, and some of them were pretty good from a critical perspective-. Dances..., Collateral, Open Range, Silverado, Bull Durham, Jerry Maguire, Rain Man, Leaving Las Vegas, Moonstruck, Raising Arizona, My Own Private Idaho, River's Edge, Dangerous Liasons.
Granted, these were not all starring roles (e.g. Dangerous Liasons).
