Paul - why dont you look into to doing some internet marketing or affiliate marketing whilst you are out? With all your web experience, setting up a web site based on an interest of yours with affiliate ads or marketing a particular segment of industry shouldnt be a stretch. Nothing is going to come short term, but if you spend any free time now working on something, a couple months down the road you could have some extra income at the very least ... and who knows, you may like it so much you set up more and whenever you have a cash flow problem again with a real job, it won't hurt because this "hobby" is filling in the gaps.
