Irony might be if Florida STATE played The Ohio University for the basketball national championship. That might be ironic because you EXPECTED Florida and Ohio State to play, but instead you got Florida State and Ohio - neither of which would be expected to play for a national championship in basketball. Irony is the opposite of what you expected. Florida won the national championship last year. Ohio State was expected to play for a national championship this year.
