When I first got to Japan I went out to buffet that was similar to a
Mongolian BBQ but you brought the food back to your table and cooked it
yourself on a grill at your table. So the first round I follow the
others and play it safe, (sliced beef, chicken, vegetables etc..) Still
hungry I went back on my own. I'm getting a little more adventurous so
I get some other things that I'm not sure what they are but figure I'll
give them a try. I pick up a couple of things that look like little
donuts, I figure they are some fried tofu or something and worthy of a
try.

I get back to the table (there are about 10 of us) and start tossing
stuff up on the grill. Someone asks me if I know what I am preparing.
I reply I am not sure however, I think this is octpus and this is that
etc.. then I point out a couple of things and admit I don't know what
they are. I'm told well this is ... and this is ..... I then sprinkle a
little soy sauce on the donut looking things that are now cooking on the
grill and point to them asking "what are these little donut looking
things?" I don't know if it was laughter or the answer that came first
as the table erupted in laughter as I was told "oh those are donuts!"

LMAO -
"it wasn't until a couple weeks later, I was downstairs cleaning up the
kitchen a bit when I had a glance at the container for the 'instant
coffee'. turns out it was gravy granules. *puke* "
