Yes, the "hummer vs. prius" is provokative, but it's only meant to
encourage discussion on what the true environmental impact of any
vehicle is.  That the point, let's consider the whole impact, not just
gas mileage.

Intuitively it makes sense to me that an electronically complicated
vehicle with 2 engines, a large battery, and various control systems
is going to cost WAY more to develop and dispose of than, basically, a
big truck with some different sheet metal than all the other trucks.

So the question remains, is the Prius more eco-friendly than, say, the
Chevy Aveo.  I would say no, the Aveo wins.  Cost alone practically
shows you that.
