No - you can't play Napster files on the IPod directly.  Apple won't open
up.

But you can burn the files to a CD (using media player) then rip them to MP3
(cumbersome, but it works).

I use several stores, but all use Windows media (Apple won't license
FreePlay to any other store either).  There are many independent stores that
use plain MP3 however - but they're all independent music (no big labels).

One of my favorite is http://amiestreet.com/

The interesting thing with them is that all music starts free.  The more
people that purchase the music the higher the price goes until, at a
maximum, it reaches 99 cents.  I've gotten some great music there.
