Honestly?

I can't find any information to back up that claim. Most of what I'm seeing
basically states that the salaries and benefits are essentially the same in
the US plants. I can't find any disgruntled worker sites or

Nearly every Japanese car in America is BUILT in America - it's almost a
necessity to eliminate the import tariffs. The Honda and Toyota factory
towns don't seem to have the problems you suggest.

On the other hand GM and Fords largest plants are in Mexico. How are
American union rules causing suffering there?

The simple fact of the matter is that if Japanese companies can build
better, more efficient cars then so should American companies. Consider:

+) These Japanese companies are working under American labor laws. That
means they have to declare large lay-offs, they have to meet wage and
benefit standards and every other ordinance and regulation any other
American company would face.

+) They do this in the American job market. To attract and maintain people
they have to compete with others. To prevent unionization they have to be
at least minimally aware of and provide their workers needs.

+) They are doing this in American communities. This means that to build
plants they have to work with the local leadership. This almost always
entails agreements for minimum local workforce, salary requirements and so
forth.

They are THRIVING here under the same environment that Detroit claims is
suffocating them so much that they must move plants to Mexico (at the cost
of thousands of jobs).

I'm not saying that the Japanese are guileless angels only out to do good:
what I am saying is that they're sounding kicking our asses on a perfectly
level playing field.
