Because the cost of doing this will impact the bottom line of most of
the major industries in the United States, and not to mention China.

It is because of Industrialisation that the US is the superpower it is
today, and through Industrialisation that China seeks to become a
challenger to that Superpower. Sources of Power such as coal, the
chemical industry for fertiliser, the feeding of dead body parts to
animals etc. all play a vital role in the rapid growth of various
Industries in any economy. To curtail, alter, or altoghether stop
these activities is simply not an option economically.

If things get bad then some company will come up with Space Suits for
you to wear for a minimal cost. Underwater cities are also a
possibility. With genetic engineering you may be able to grow gills.

Please stop worrying about the inevitable demise of the present human
race, and get on with the business of consuming.
