Yes there has been but since it is a degenerative illness in most
cases there is no "going back". I know with my mom she was diagnosed
around 28 years ago and for a good 12 years you couldn't tell a thing
except for the occasional attacks every 18 months or so. She is now a
virtual quadriplegic that uses a chin joystick to move her wheelchair.
Basically because of the unresponsiveness of her body parts they start
to "seize up" and no longer function. For each case it is different...
kidneys, legs, hands, eyes... and the fact that no signals is getting
to them or it is so construed that it causes spasms etc. causes things
to just stop working over time.

My mom's quality of life has recently, in the last 5 years, improved
due to getting her on medicaid but that was a good 23 years into the
illness. She doesn't receive social security or SSI but medicaid does
pick up where my dad's insurance let's off. It allows her to go to a
vocational training center and an adult day care center during the day
so my dad and brother's can go to work and school. It pays for
computer training and voice recognition software... yeah my mom has a
kick-butt top of the line XPS laptop with like neon lights on it and
crap... it is really funny. I started receiving emails from her for
the first time ever about 3 months ago and they are like books!

I guess I just have seen 2 sides of the story, there are people that
have hope and those that don't. You can be in the same situation and
having hope can make all the difference. If we had only gotten to him
and showed him that there are programs out there to help with the
situation that the end would not have been him losing his wife and
spending the rest of his life in jail.

ok enough with this, I have a product launch today! :-)
