My buddy just got one. Loves it.

He's been doing exercises with an Army Ranger and having a blast,
they were practicing the car-jack shoot and some shoot behind and
turn stuff (pretty slick). Seems to be just having a blast. He's
invited me to go with them, sometime maybe I will. Sounds fun.

Thing is, don't just buy a firearm and throw it in the closet. Like

Yeah, practice practice practice. If you've got kids, teach them gun
safety as well, starting early.
I'm still debating having one in the house... I *do* have a daughter, who
looks like she's going to be pretty cute. A Mossberg *is* customary...

But part of me is like, paranoid. I'm like, if I get one, I'll just get a
pistol, and a concealed carry, and just wear the damn thing all the
time- sleep with it under the pillow, etc.. *sigh* probably not the
answer either. My pops kept them in a safe, while we were kids,
but that wasn't very fast access...

I dunno. I love guns, but I've never had the burning desire to own one,
besides maybe gramp's m1 rifle- but that's sentimental, and so long as
it's in the fams, I'm cool. BB Guns, Blow Guns, hell yeah. Crossbows
and bows and whatnot(usually home made), atalatles- sure.
A sword? Sign me up.

Mostly cuz you can't just go out back (in the city) and plink stuff, now
that I think about it... but having kids... eh... *scratches head* =]

If you are serious about contingency planning, you also need to think about

Hell yeah! Have some long-term little stashes buried around the country, in
places where only GPS will lead you back. Several dests/routes, which no
one
person knows all of. (One or two that everyone knows, but encrypt the rest.
;)

Jerry's idea about the paperwork is good- in a portable *proof safe (Keep
the
fake stuff stashed in a couple of the seekrit lokayshens, with some gold).

Maybe a mountain-bike or two, and an analgesic. A Bathrobe & some of those
Useful Knowledge type of books, heavy duty. Maps. A compass. Etc..

Ha! Yeah, I've got like, some first aide kits, and that's about it.

Sike!

I've also got all of Angus MacGyver's exploits, and Hatchet, in braille.

Why braille?

In case I grab and test the flashlight laser, versus the flashlight.

Yup. We're prepared.
