There's also this concept of "nutrient timing" which my rule #3 is a form of.

Basically you look at the 3 macro-nutrients: carbs (2 types: low GI
and high GI), protein, and fats and then you "time" them for when your
body needs them.

As for diabetes, etc, nutrient timing and understand your body's needs
can really help you make good choices.  For example, it helps to think
of carbs and fats on a teeter-totter:

When carbs go up, fats must go down; when fats go up, carbs must go
down.  Following that rule can help you control fat gain and, best
yet, cholesterol.
