My daughter, Sarah, won her school's spelling bee yesterday for all grade levels.
What was funny was before the competition started and all the kids were sitting together in the bull pen, I said to Sarah, "floccinaucinihilipilification." I was just kidding with her to make a lighthearted joke, and my wife Lisa and I chuckled, but then Sarah goes ahead and spells it correctly out loud without hesitation between letters. She's nine years old! It really intimidated the other kids, too. So they call the kids up, and they all look worried like al Qaeda is just outside the door, but Sarah is just smiling like the cat that ate the canary. Every time she gets up to the mike, she's smiling ear-to-ear like, "Bring it, bitch!" and just rattles them off. Then on the last one she plays with the judges and asks for alternate this, definition that, how many different definitions there are, use it in a sentence, yada yada yada. And then she just rattles it off anyway. I'm going to have to watch out for this one. This one toys with her catch before she eats it.
