A recent variant on the stew meat is a lazy-man's fondue.

Our family always had a fondue spread on New Years Eve (oil, meat,
cheese, breads, veggies, chocolate and fruits and cakes). But everyone
got too lazy to wait for each tidbit. and the burning oil was
dangerous around kids, dogs and drunks. So we shortened it.

Now, we make just the stew beef the same way, but cook it through on a
pan in the oven.
We make a cheese fondue sauce (gruyere, emmantal, generic swiss, dry
white wine, touch of mustard) with a touch more wine than normal, heat
till molten.

Next, take some french bread, roughly cube it (3/4 to 1 inch cubes),
mound into volcano shape on plate, put a scoop of beef in the center
of the volcano, and drizzle cheese sauce over bread mound (but not
over the beef)

This has become very popular.

The only more popular quick hit meals are shish kebab not on skewers
(I have custom made baskets for the grill), and my little stuffed
shrimp bites.
