I haven't figured out how yet. I don't think that Uncle Sam allows that yet.
I'm sure once Todd is president we will be able to do so....

I haven't found, yet, any amount of money I wouldn't spend to keep my babies
happy and healthy. The trip to get their teeth done last year was just over
$500, which included a tooth pull and a basic checkup. I really wish I could
claim them as dependents. : )

Had a similar experience with my dog (cocker spaniel). He has epilepsy but
always real mild. He would primarily get dazed and just sort of zone out
for a few minutes but then be fine. The vet said that those sorts of
seizures don't have any side effects, it's just scary while the dog is going
through it, but once they come out of they're fine. The medication puts
stress on the liver and kidneys so it's better for the dog to just have the
seizures rather then take a risk of A.) shortening his life and/or B.)
making the tail end of that life full of physical problems and most likely
having him in pain for the last legs of his life. So we opted out of
medication. As time went on though, his seizures got worse and worse and
more frequent. Finally, it came to a head one day when I was
playing ball with him and as he was running back when he went into a violent
seizure. It was the scariest and most horrifying experience in my life. We
didn't have kids yet, so he was like our kid and it was like watching your
kid go through this. My wife and I waited a few minutes to see if it would
stop and it didn't. We got in the car and drove 20 minutes to the nearest
emergency vet clinic and his seizure stopped about a minute away from the
vet. Did a whole bunch of blood tests and other tests and all came back
negative. The bill was $500. Got him started on Phenobarbital and didn't
have any more seizures. Had to do blood tests every 6 months for the next
two years at $125 a pop to get to the absolute minimal level of
Phenobarbital that we could so that we could reduce as
much as possible any side effects. Finally got him to a really mild dose
and by all medical standards shouldn't even work, but we give 150 mg a day
he does just fine. We still do an annual workup and that runs about $175,
but so far no negative effects on either his liver or kidneys so he's doing
pretty well. Of course only time will tell.

I'm glad to hear that your cat is doing well. I totally know how scary that
is. We would tell people about it and they couldn't believe that we would
spend, all told over $1000 and growing, on a dog, but they just don't get
it. He's a great dog and we love him like he was our own kid. I wouldn't
have it any other way.

I'm still trying to recover from a very rough weekend.

first of all Wendy and I went to see Ice Age on Friday - a very good film.
  Quite funny.

then when we got home around midnight we found our cat Solomon in very bad
shape lying on the floor. First we tried to get her to eat something, in
case it was some sort of insulin reaction - she's diabetic.

However she did ate very little and was not reacting much at this point.
We
rushed her to what we thought was a nearby 24 hour emergency vet clinic.
Guess what while it advertised that it was a 24 hour clinic no such luck
the
  place was closed.

So we went to the next one about 15 miles away in Vienna, Virginia. Along
the way the cat began to go into convulsions. At that point I figure I was
breaking tons of traffic laws the way I was driving down I-66 trying to
get
to the clinic. Fortunately there were not state police on the way. I never
knew this Saturn could go so fast. Anyhow we manage to make it there in
time. They took her in right away. Apparently her glucose levels at this
point was less than 20. Normal levels are between 70 and 120. So they
started her on a glucose solution IV. Around 4 am they said that they
wanted
to keep her overnight to watch her etc. So we finally made it home around
5am. We called later (Saturday evening) and were told we could pick her
up.
The bill came to over $400. Ouch.

  So needless my weekend sucked.
