I nearly lost a thumb last summer because my house mate removed the cover to the floor fan. Not realizing the cover was off, I touched the top of the fan to turn it, and the blade hit my hand. Fortunately it was one with plastic blades. If it had been metal blades, I'd be absent half my hand.
