"The Pentagon plans to shoot down a disabled 5,000-pound spy satellite
before it enters the atmosphere in early March, a senior Pentagon
official said Thursday."

A little voice in the back of my mind is reminding me of the test firing
of an anti-satellight weapon by China a couple of years ago and wonders
if this is a veiled response to that by the US. "Look - we've got one too!"

Worth noting though, we actually shot down another of out own satellites
in the 80's, so it's not really a new thing for the US.
