I got tired of all the BS and installed Ubuntu 7.10 on my desktop. After a week, I have everything except my Windows Mobile phone sync working correctly.
Getting 100% functionality out of Ubuntu is still the realm of geeks, not regular people, but if you are comfortable in a *nix command shell and want all the killer tools available for free in Linux, Ubuntu is really nice.
