Gnosticism is a specific belief system that says in essence that the "real
truth" about Jesus was hidden and that his message was changed very early on
into something it was never meant to be. Gnostic beliefs typically are much
less exclusive than any kind of fundamentalist belief.

In a way, Gnostics are the opposite of fundamentalists. Fundamentalists
base their entire belief system on the Bible and do not allow for any
discussion of its accuracy or the political ramifications of its compilation
- Gnostics base their belief system on a pursuit of spiritual truth, even if
it means following a path others might consider heresy.

But "Gnostics" were, broadly speaking, just a group that felt that the truth
about God could be known...whether that truth lie internal or external would
just be a sub-category of the Gnostic belief, right?
