Watched it (on Blu-Ray) for the first time.

For my part it really wasn't all that bad... if you're able to accept it as
a modern, big-budget "Blair Witch" it does work as (I think) it was intended
to. You do, of course, have to accept the near invincibility of the camera,
the immortal battery, etc but that's not hard to do considering the giant
monster attacking NY.

The creature design, in many ways, reminded me favorably of that in
"Resistance: The Fall of Man" (one of my favorite video games) and that
probably led me to be more accepting of it. The main cameraman in the film
plays the dumb son "Marmaduke" on "Carpoolers"... so whenever he spoke my
wife and I shared a look and a "Oh, Marmaduke!"... that might have made us
more disposed to the movie as well. ;^)

I'm not saying that the movie was great by any means. It was very slow to
get moving and much of the dialog was on very tall stilts and the end was
disappointing at best. But as a rental it's a fun, if sometimes silly, time
as long as you're willing to accept it for what it is (and aren't prone to
motion sickness).
