Probably faulty logic and here's why: follow the money.  How do news
networks make money?  Advertising.

That means that Fox sales folks have gone out and signed up
advertisers (i.e., taken a share of revenue from that segment) and now
those advertisers are, generally, off the market.

This means that in order to make money in that segment, a competitor
would have to feel they could make a business case to play follow-fox
and that there's all kinds of untapped advertisers that aren't
advertising with Fox that would sign up with another network for a
different show - but attacking the same segment.  That's not too
likely.

So what other networks do is try to tap other segments and find
advertisers for those segments.

In this way, consumers get choice and advertisers get clear market
segments to advertise too.  E.g., Toyota can sell Supras on Fox and
Prii on CNN (if the stereotypes hold true).
