Just to capture stills?

Both OSes provide simplified tools to do this out of the box. Just in case
you didn't know:

Windows (pretty much from Win 3.1 on): Press the PrtScr ("Print Screen") key
to capture an image of the desktop to the clipboard. Press Alt + PrtScr to
capture an image of just the active application.

This still works in Vista, but Vista (all versions but Home Basic) also
comes with a more advanced tool: the "Snipping" tool (just enter "Snip" into
the start menu search if you can't find it). This lets you capture the
full-screen, a certain window or any arbitrary section by clicking and
dragging. Once you've made a capture you can make it up by "writing" on it
with different colored ink.

MacOS (pretty much any version anybody would still be using): Press
Command+Shift+3 to capture the whole screen or Command+Shift+4 to capture
an arbitrary section. Both of these will create a new file on the desktop
containing the image. However if you also press Control (as in
Control+Command+Shift+3 or 4) it will place the image on the clipboard.

If you want to do that a lot save your fingers and create a macro. ;^)

As far as capturing screen images I've never found the need for anything
more than this. About the only feature I've sometimes missed on Windows is
an automated save... but switching to Paint-Shop Pro to throw the image down
isn't too much hassle.

What features are looking for?
