Those are just rumors, but we do know that it involves Spock travelling back
in time for some reason, and nothing good has ever come of time travel in
Star Trek.  Plus JJ Abrams is not a Trek fan and has called his approach a
reboot, with the intended purpose of bringing in new fans.  Yeah, it's set
before Kirk's time in the original series, but no one knows how it's going
to play out.

I just don't know why they can't just start a new series and cast of
characters and set it 100 years after Voyager; then you have new blood and
new talent and you can bump up the effects budget with no problem.
