What T is saying is that we are not targeting Russia. The missile in Poland are targeting Iran, they would be totally ineffective as a deterrent against Russia. As for Georgia, it turns out they had good reason to want weapons from us, as the Russian invasion demonstrated.
The real story here is why Russia is banging this drum at all. Does Russia want to restart the Cold War? The US has no desire to go down that road, so why is Russia going there? And why the rush to embrace the adversaries of the US? Oil, baby, it's all about oil. Not access to oil, because Russia, Venezuela, and Iran together have a huge share of the world's oil reserves. They are concerned about the price of oil. All three countries have based their entire economies on oil at prices well above where they are today. Take a look at this story, it tells you everything you need to know about what is going on with these three countries: http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5ipv6BolGZ4zNk7Id6_mYLLjRmQKAD94M25M00 Oil is at $50/b. Chavez want to see a band at $90-$100/b, because he need oil that high in order to meet his budget. Russia and Iran have similar situations, and the leadership in all three countries are in serious danger of losing power if the price of oil doesn't recover. So this whole mess isn't about the US at all, it's about internal politics in Russia, Iran, and Venezuela.
