Whats your IP address, no firewall and UAC? Hmmm invitation for trouble. I seriously hope that your computer is always behind a corporate firewall, and fully up to date with Virus Protection, because with the UAC being disabled, any program can do things they shoud not be allowed too.
As for the original question, I would suggest getting the latest drivers for any device from the manufacturer. If they are not listed in Vista SP1, you will need to update ALL drivers via the manufacturers website and download the required driver. Otherwise you will have problems. And I seriously would not recommend disabling the firewall or UAC, unless you can be 100% sure you are behind a firewall, and anything you run is not infected with malicious software. I recall disabling the UAC, but it plays havoc with digtally signed movies on USB devices so if you do play movies on external USB drives dont switch UAC off. Otherwise a DVD you create will be seen as illegal content, but is not illegal if UAC is left on. Go figure. And if you are on an Adminstrator account, you can always run something with the command run as adminstrator if you really must.
