You have a kid and do a good job, you're a dad for the rest of your life.

Some things are a little more age dependent, like being a step slower
playing soccer with your kid. But being the kind of dad who will play
soccer with your kid is more important than being fast while doing it.

At the very least you'll teach them that old and age and treachery
will beat youth and skill :)

Seriously though, you aren't guaranteed any number of years with your
kid no matter when you start. There is no "optimal" time and place.
Like the rest of life, you do the best you can with what you've got
and do your damndest to make it awesome. Do that and you'll be golden.
