One could say that if they were monkies with typewriters they would
run into each other eventually, and almost certainly before the wrote
"Gone With the Wind".

As far as the odds of them running into each other... Sputnik was
launched in 1957, so I would say the odds are at best 1:50 (per year).
 Since most of the satellites currently in orbit were launched in the
past three decades or so, and launch frequency is increasing, the
chances may be more like 1:25 (per year).
