A 1% increase in unemployment translates into ~1,000,000 NEW Medicaid
enrollees and ~1.1M uninsured.

THAT translates into a $2 billion dollar hit to the US budget and a
$1.5 billion hit to the states.

Again, each 1% increase in unemployment = $3.4 billion hit to the economy.

AND!

This happens at the same time as tax revenues are dropping.  And since
states have to balance budgets, their costs are shooting up at the
same time their revenues are falling off.

This explains a BIG reason why the Governors - including ALL
Republican Govs - are supporting the stimulus.

Dang.
