I've had a couple of interviews just like this.  These have been 
second|third round interviews so they occurred after a previous round of 
a more traditional ~1 hour personal interview which usually occurred 
after a initial round of a phone interview.  But I have definitely felt 
these in depth interviews to have been worth my time even though I never 
did land the position with the companies that spent this effort on me.
