Uh, GM pensioners did see those benefits for a long time. A whole generation or two worked, retired and died under the system. So, yes, I'd say that it worked out pretty well for them. Things changed. > It takes 2 to tango and the union negotiated a deal it knew, or > should've known, would NEVER be possible. > > They just hoped it would. Pensions aren't really that difficult. The problem is that you have to fund them adequately and not go raiding the trust fund when times are shaky. See Social Security. Health care is a more difficult proposition and a cost that is much harder for the company to control. Hence why we are having a national health care debate right now. > And then they went shopping because the workers were paying them > $300,000/year to look good You know Gruss, it seems like every time you throw out any sort of number on this list it is fantastically wrong. It took me 5 minutes to do a search and find out what the President of the UAW makes. It's $150,000. Maybe you think that is too much as well given the way things have gone and that is fine. But for pity's sake, if you are going to put a number out there in the middle of an argument, please actually look it up first. http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070413/AUTO01/704130353/11 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Want to reach the ColdFusion community with something they want?
