The VRE station is also an Amtrak Station, you may be able to catch an
Amtrak into DC (Union Station). There's also the National Marine Museum @
Quantico, which would prolly be walking distance.

When your going to the Museums, take the Yellow line in and get off at the
stop before the Smithsonian it's only a couple of blocks away and you don't
have the crowds that exit at the Smithsonian. The Red Line will take you
within a mile or so of the Zoo, but it's still a decent trek up Connecticut
Avenue to the zoo.

Most of the Federal Buildings hold tours (Bureau of Engraving and Printing,
FBI, Customs, Commerce also has a small Aquarium in the basement)

If you're a beer drinker, there's the Brickskeller in Dupont Circle, which
holds the world record for the most beers on a menu (although they're not
all always in stock) there's also RFD about a block from the Verizon Center
which is owned by the same folks but has a better in stock beer selection.

We're going to be driving down to play tourist in the DC area on the
week before Labor day - the first week of Sept. We're going with my
in-laws and have a two room suite booked at Quantico (nice thing about
having an army retiree for a father-in-law).

Looking at the map, there's a VRE station right there... and my son is
a train fanatic. It'd be a heck of a lot easier to take the train in,
I remember that from when I lived in Mt. Vernon! Problem is that the
train only runs through Friday, which leaves the weekend with us
driving to either Franconia/Springfiled or Huntington station and
parking.

It's going to be four adults and two kids (7 and 4) - our goal is to
have an easy visit, going to the museums and/or zoo depending on
weather and how we feel. Any suggestions?

Hatton
