My macbook has a hardware issue.....I know, you're flabbergasted and you say, "But Zaphod, Apples don't have hardware issues. They are the gods among laptops". Sorry, but I'm going to have to burst your bubble. The nvidia chip burned up. Interestingly, it's a known issue and Apple seems to be replacing free of charge even if the laptop is out of warranty.
I went to the local Apple store tonight to get it looked at but their first available appt. was on Friday. FRIDAY! Seriously. Who can be without their stuff that long. Luckily, I know the manager of another store in a nearby city that I'll drive to tomorrow. The other cool thing is that the laptop still boots and I can ssh into it and get whatever files I need.
