the GOP is going against the interests of the consumer and geeks everywhere with its attempt to block the FCC's net Neutraility rules. They are instead proposing that companies be given the right to throttle, limit, charge more for youtube and hulu, Favor microsoft traffic over Google's traffic etc. Net Neutrality allows for innovation and development on a level playing field and for continued growth of business and industries. McCain is saying that by given companies the ability to block websites and traffic that they choose, somehow this is going to foster the creation of new services and uses for the Internet, and provide more jobs. If a company can simply choose not to allow traffic from a new business to flow across its networks, how does that create more jobs? The company never has to expand, it never has to develop, it never has to innovate. They can ALL just sit with their same networks, same service offerings and just block new programs at will to ensure that they maintain their position. How on earth does this foster innovation? How does it foster innovation when At&T brings out its own movie program and blocks Hulu, Youtube, and Google Video? How does it foster innovation when they decide to launch their own facebook, and restrict traffic to the current facebook? Can anyone claim that the current state of broadband penetration and telecommunications in the US has fostered innovation and development in providing internet connectivity? The US trails developed countries in terms of broadband penetration and has been getting worse year after year while other countries are advancing. http://www.websiteoptimization.com/bw/0904/broadband-penetration-population.png In the EU, however, Network Neutrality is assured http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news/2009/10/eu-taunts-us-deregulation-sucks-and-net-neutralitys-better-here.ars "Prioritizing some traffic means restricting the rest, and it will be essential to remain vigilant as regards the impact this has on competition," she said. "The European commission attaches high importance to preserving the open and neutral character of the net in Europe, in the interest of fair competition and tangible consumer benefits." Let's hope that the 'Rest Of The World' chooses the EU model and not the US system. However, depending on where they get their bandwidth from...would they have a choice? Is it time for Silicon Valley to move to Denmark? :-) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| Want to reach the ColdFusion community with something they want?
