Thanks for everyone's comments! Based on Vivec's comments I'm going to poke around for a small desktop to see what could be put together for him.
The main reason a laptop was the idea was because mom & dad don't allow computer/tv in the kid's rooms. The thought was that with a laptop he could be in the "family room" and still play. Space is something of an issue though a dedicated desk spot is available. Should be interesting to see!
