Unfortunately the latest models of PS3, as I understand it, no longer 
are backwards compatible with earlier PS games.  You can get the ones 
that have been ported to the Sony online site, but not plug them 
directly into the console.

The store clerk explained that early editions of the PS3 system had this 
feature but not the new ones.
