Although THIS story happened in England, we are using the same scanners here
in the US.

I cannot find a transcript of her testimony yet, but I do remember watching
parts of it. Napolitano said recently in testimony before Congress that the
body scanners here in the US _cannot_ print or store or transmit images.

>From another story: "Federal officials say the machines will blur your face
and groin area. The machines will not store, print, transmit or send your
image. It must be deleted by the operator before another image will appear.
"
If that turns out to be false, then the 18 scanners already installed and in
place need to be rethought, and Janet needs to do a huge mea culpa, and
apologize to all of the travelers that have been scanned, trusting her
assurances on how the systems work.

Currently, we have been assured that cannot happen.
Currently, the full body scans in the US are optional. (a full body search
can be opted for instead).

But, the reason Napolitano was testifying before congress last month was the
Christmas bomber, and her contention that full mandatory body scan machines
would have prevented that bombing attempt.
