I am adding paypal to an ecommerce site. Because of the unique nature of
the items we are selling, I need to lock the items in the db and then send
the user to paypal.

So, here are the steps:

1. Log in (email/password)

2. Select payment via paypal or "classic"(cc on site). For this example,
paypal.

3. Display message to user that items will be locked for 15 minutes with
button to pay now/checkout.

4. Send to paypal.

I've got one and two, but I'm a little fuzzy on step three. There are a
couple of ways I can do this so I would like input on which would be best.

After the button is clicked, I could lock the item and cfhttp the first
paypal page, submitting the required cart info form variables, keeping
everything in one step

Or, I could lock th items and have the output be the form submitting the
cart contents to the paypal checkout page.

Which would be better?
