Since you don't know when an earthquake is coming, you don't have time to
get stressed about it.
Get properly prepared and then go live your life.
If you live in California, you have a really good chance of surviving the
quake as well as having your property come through.
Earthquakes are usually over in less than a minute.  Quick.

Historically speaking property damage and lives lost are much rarer in
California than other areas.  57 people died in the Northridge Quake vs the
Haiti Quake which I believe was fairly close in intensity.

So yeah, I would much rather go through an earthquake (properly prepared)
than deal with a tornado or hurricanes.
