The International Space Station ran an experiment where they put
bacteria on a disc outside the ISS and left it there for 553 days.
After the intense radiation, lack of oxygen, etc, they brought it back
in and tried to cultivate the sample. Sure enough, bacteria grew.
Amazing stuff.
