Yeah, having to run hard-core apps in a VM wasn't fun until I got this
i7 with 4 gigs.

A late 2008 laptop with 2 gigs was ok for occasional forays into
other-os land, for testing and what not, which was all I needed it
for.

Sounds like Mama would be better off with a dual-boot...  Editing
video in a VM would be painful.
