Does it really matter how much it is? In a time where unemployment is so high and the economy still shaky does it not make sense to cut some corners, like this crap?
If we could have saved the tax payers $10,000 today by not pardoning the turkey it would have been $10,000 that could have been spent elsewhere. (I am not sure how much it cost, but based on the news footage I saw, and all the people there, it was far from 'cheap'). Saying, we won't save much if we stop so we will just keep on doing it is a ludicrous statement. When I lost my job, we cut a lot of small, frivolous spending and guess what? All those little things added up to a pretty big savings. I agree that compared to overall government spending the cost for this charade today was nothing, but, how much would it be if we stopped doing ALL this stupid shit? I say it would be a decent amount.
