Here we have the crux of the issue, as far as I'm concerned.

I get that there was "spin" in the headline. Why not just say,
"Person Shot at Safeway"? ;)

You don't see it as a sad commentary on the state of the nation when
you, let's say, /wouldn't be too surprised/ to hear someone was
'influenced' by things said by Palin and the Tea Party?

Horse shoes and hand-grenades, my friend-- I'm not trying to put words
in your mouth. There's no need. This *is* obvious stuff.

We all wondered the same thing, and it wouldn't have mattered *what*
was put in the headline-- "politician shot" would probably be enough,
for people to go: "hrm, I wonder if someone took something that was
said too far? They'd have to be nuts, but...".

And hell, it doesn't even have to be something that's said, per se.

Sam is like "Obama presides over most polarized political landscape
evah!", and while I don't think Obama has as much to do with it as,
um, we do ('we' as in nation), the meaty core is that a lot of us have
begun caring more about "our side" than the fucking whole.

I'm not mad when folks pick up on the "spin" that comes from X and not
that which comes from Y... no, I'm mad-- well, I guess mad would
require a bit more emotional commitment. Let's say I bitch-- when it
seems that the big logic falls by the wayside in favor of focusing on
the little logic.

Anybody can spin any thing any way (anything anyway?)- and maybe that
spin itself, changes the thing being spun... centrifugal force?
Reactive centrifugal force? Maybe one of the three "fictitious"
centrifugal forces? (I'm pulling for Euler!)

Anyways, what I'm lamenting is basically the same thing I'm always
lamenting: that we're not as good as we should be.

This is fucking AMERICA, man! We're like, the baddest of the bad! the
goodest (sorry mom) of the good!

Maybe the Liberals and Democrats express like, this veiled hatred, and
really are like, Socialists who want to wreck the country. Maybe the
Conservatives and Republicans express like, this open hatred, and
really are like, Fascists who want to wreck the country.

I don't fucking think so, but somehow we've let the goddamned media
turn us into these caricatures of ourselves. And it's like we didn't
even notice. We were so busy watching the one hand, the other hand
done straight pulled the wool over our eyes.

Life and Art imitating each other (if there's even a difference) in
some,
not-as-cool-as-like-some-kind-of-utopian-future-world-where-we-only-work-4-hour-days-and-everyone-is-pretty-fucking-happy
type of way.

Anyways, my point is that, if me and you want to talk armed revolt,
"fuck yeah!". Some politician trying to capitalize on how fucking
whacked out things are though? Hell no. Screw that noise. I'll go
for hope and change any git-damned day of the week.

It's the more honest lie. =))

"Life is pain, princess."

Damn, you said "fair", neh? If you'd said something about "hurt" or
"painful", that line would have been perfect. I just had to squeeze
it in somewhere, because I was going to use it on the wife the other
night, but she's heard me say it plenty, and probably would have
punched me in the face. (not really, but I don't think it would have
been seen as uplifting by her as I meant it to be.)

Anyways, I should have said "you and I", come to think of it. Ahh, moms.

AnyAnyways... yeah, the MSM sucks.
