Well as much as it hurts me to say it, we've decided to let our original dev complete the job. After a serious tongue lashing he's agreed to work in-house where I can keep an eye on him and manage his progress.
Ultimately it came down to the learning curve a new dev would face getting familiar with the project and the looming deadline. I would've preferred to cut him loose and let him learn a lesson, but that's not what's best for the client, and that's my primary concern. Thanks to all who offered their services.
