i don't buy it. touch seems so intuitive because uses natural gestures - touching something to control it. a trackpad, however responsive, is still a proxy to the display, and therefore will never feel as natural as a touchscreen. i prefer my mouse to the trackpad on my envy. usually i turn off the trackpad because my thumb can inadvertently activate it when i am typing.
touch is clearly the future, but what it means is more far-reaching than switching from a mouse to a trackpad. It means the end of traditional desktops and even laptops, and the creation of new categories of systems using touch screen displays, many of them in non-traditional formats. think flexible displays. for instance, i would love to have a large mat display that i could roll out onto a flat surface and work with models and diagrams directly. with good voice recognition software, i might never even need to use an onscreen keyboard.
