What you're forgetting, ignoring, or haven't considered is that the
existing sales tax is *one part* of an individual's overall tax burden
and the smallest part in many cases.

If, all of sudden, you make a sales tax *the entire tax burden* of
someone, now incentives start to radically change at every level.
Businesses would totally restructure to provide tax advantages to
people.  The black and grey markets would sky rocket.  Who knows what
any of this radical change would do to the economy?
