Now that I'm back in the states it's interesting to view your vacation-self ... And a good reminder that it's good to get away and totally unplug.
Our routine was: * wake up, eat breakfast while watching ocean * swim one mile in the spa pool ( few people, no kids ) * use spa facilities to shower up with mango-coco products ( outdoor showers - if you haven't taken a hot shower outdoors in the tropics at a spa ... Make reservations immediately ) * read, more coffee * lunch by the koi / swan pond that overlooks the gardens and ocean * back to the room for reading and afternoon siesta * apps and cocktails by the ocean * dinner by the ocean * bed Repeat for 7 days. It's been a few years since I've had such a great do-nothing vacation and a good reminder for me that's important to disconnect once in a while. We stayed at the Grand Hyatt at Poipu on Kauai; it's a fantastic property and highly recommended. Everyone is different of course, but it had all the stuff we liked and wasn't "big resort" feeling even though it had all of the features of one. Kauai is pretty out of the way on its own and Poipu is the lesser destination in the south rather than Princeville in the north where Hanalei ( from puff the magic dragon ) and the Bali Hi ( from South Pacific ) are. This time of year was also nice in that it was mostly older quieter people. If you're looking for action, probably not any place you'd want to go :-) We made reservations for July while we were there ;-) The white shorts made it back.
