Wich is why the Army did away with it for the most part. There are still some
in service, but they are usually reserved for training purposes only. In a
mechanized infantry company, it's the first sergeants vehicle.
The LAV is about the same armor wise as a Bradley. I have been in them when the
Marines came to Fort Irwin, Ca. for training. The Marines would bring them into
our shop to work on them.
The LAV and brad won't take much of a hit either. Small arms won't hurt it, but
a tank would destroy it. Which is why Bradley's and tanks fight in tandem.
Usually the brad, if it's a scout, will be in front of the tanks and when they
make contact with enemy armor, will back off and let the tank do it's job. For
infantry, it's a troop carrier and bad ass support by fire platform. It also
has a TOW missile launcher to defend against tanks.
