One member of the Donner Party, William Montgomery Pike (my 3 great uncle) died from a firearm accident the week before they set up winter camp.
His wife, Harriet Frances (Murphy) Pike, escaped with the Forlorn Hope Party, and survived. Their daughter, Naomi Lavina Pike, who was 2 years old, was rescued in the First Relief, and survived to adulthood.
